Pollution
Pollution is mostly generated by industries, agriculture, vehicles and even our homes. Once it is generated it is here to stay, it is very difficult to eliminate pollution. However, there are several ways to reduce this problem. Unfortunately, thins that we consider necessary in our lives like cars, books and newspapers, air-conditioning, disposable items and many other items are producing more pollution. Therefore pollution is the consequence of producing, using and disposing of such goods. It can contaminate the air, sea water and ground water.
Air pollution is mainly caused by emissions from burning fuels and materials, by road transport, industry and also by people at home. It can also be caused by natural sources like wind-blown dust and construction material. This kind of pollution can damage people's health and the environment. There are several ways that we can help to reduce air pollution. Car sharing is one of them. If one person has to go to work, he or she can car share by taking as many people along as possible, who would have made their journey in a separate car. This can help to reduce the traffic jams as well, apart from reducing air pollution. Using the public transport is another alternative, because a bus can carry more people on the same trip. Another means of transport is a bike. This is the least polluting way to get around, because it is powered by human strength and not by any damaging fuel. However, the best and easiest way to reduce pollution is to walk. Factories and industries should do their part as well. An important issue is that of installing filters in chimneys.
Water is also affected by pollution. Again, polluted water can be damaging to people's health as well as plants, animals and creatures that live in the sea. Pollution of coastal and ground water comes from different sources. These sources are discharge from sewage works, pesticides and soil and fertilisers washed into the sea from farm and other cultivated land. It can also come from substances left by humans which can be washed by rainfall into sea water or water courses. Litter in the water also causes problems because it can release toxins that would also contaminate it. There are various ways to reduce such pollution. The government and companies should treat sewage before releasing it into the sea. Moreover, we should never throw litter or waste in the sea. Farmers should be careful what types of pesticides and fertilisers they use.

An effective way of reducing the problem of pollution is by recycling and re-using goods. Paper is one of the easiest material to recycle. Furthermore, paper recycling can help to reduce the chopping of more trees. Cans and glass can also be recycled. Everyone can do his/her part to reduce the problem of pollution. Bring-in sites should increase and the general public should be made aware of these sites. Moreover, car sharing and the use of public transport should be encouraged more by the Government and employers, so that everyone will be going his/her share to reduce this big problem of pollution.
